Some say that our great, great, great grandfather came to Manitoulin Island looking for paradise. He had come on a pirate ship from Europe after the French Revolution having lost everything during the war. He portaged past the French River and made his way to the shores of Lake Huron. From there he searched Manitoulin Island until he found a magical spot full of strange energy. He called it Honora Bay after his grandmother. The place was full of Silver Birches and he called this land "The Land of the Silver Birches". Now we don't know whether the above story is true but we would like to think that it is. Today Silver Birches Resort is the home of the Opolko family who now carry on their own old traditions. Those traditions include the ancient forms of fire jumping, good conversation and relaxation.

The resort is comprised of approximately 350 acres and 3800 feet of the finest rocky Manitoulin shoreline with 18 one to three bedroom rental units, trailer and camping sites, a new restaurant for those who don't want to cook and a 2 hour private hiking trail. Fish from the government dock or boat and fish on the north shore of Lake Huron or swim in our indoor swimming pool. This unique dry limestone land has mostly always a breeze off the water that keeps bugs away. Most people are surprised at how little they are bothered by mosquitos and black flies are practically non existant. Come to Silver Birches Resort for a great Canadian vacation - accommodation Silver Birches Resort style.
